Social Marketing and awareness Of Smoking.

Warnings on the packs of tobacco should not be neglected as it for social betterment of society. Crespo et al. (2007) highlighted social and health awareness messages for well being of society by making smokers and youth aware about the disease caused by excessive smoking like lung cancer, oral cancer, larynx, open heart surgery and yellow teeth which resulted very dangerous.[i] All evidences from countries like Canada, France, and USA conclude that pictorial visuals are more effective and beneficial rather than mere textual warnings on the packs. Plain packaging is useful to reduce the consumption of tobacco and essentially helps to quit smoking. Graphical visuals are associated with greater health knowledge and increasing cessation behaviour. It can also be reached to lower income group as it is not expensive as compared to television. Discussing above reactions of adults and young people in various countries like USA, CANADA and FRANCE towards smoking, my research aims to know the behaviour of people towards effectiveness of plain packaging, pictorial visuals, textual warnings, self efficacy and cessation support warnings on packs of cigarettes and whether they are helpful in quitting smoking in UNITED KINGDOM.
